What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Electrical Engineer (Hybrid Remote) position at TECHEAD?
Salary: $140,000 - 170,000/year
This position is 3 days per week remote / work from home.
About the Role
We are seeking a senior, hands‑on electrical engineering leader to provide technical authority and team leadership for the design of secure, mission‑critical electronic systems supporting defense, aerospace, and secure communications markets. This role combines system‑level electrical architecture, low‑emissions and information‑assurance‑driven design, and direct leadership of an electrical and PCB design team. The successful candidate will remain actively involved in design execution while setting technical direction, ensuring compliance with government and customer requirements, and mentoring engineers working on sensitive, high‑reliability systems.
Responsibilities
- Architectural Ownership: Serve as the electrical system architect for secure communications and mission‑critical products from requirements definition through production release.
- Emissions & Integrity Control: Define and implement system‑level electrical architectures addressing EMI/EMC, signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, enclosure bonding, shielding, and cable interfaces.
- Secure Engineering: Design and review solutions requiring TEMPEST or TEMPEST‑like mitigation techniques, RED/BLACK separation concepts, and controlled interfaces.
- Emanations Mitigation: Apply layout and mechanical integration techniques to limit unintended radiated and conducted emissions using advanced filtering, shielding, and isolation strategies.
- Requirements Translation: Interpret customer, program, and regulatory requirements related to secure electronics and translate them into actionable engineering designs.
- Direct Contribution: Personally contribute to schematic design, key PCB architecture decisions, and prototype bring‑up for complex boards.
- Technical Oversight: Provide deep technical oversight for mixed‑signal, high‑speed digital, RF-adjacent, and power electronics, as well as multi‑layer PCB stackups and controlled impedance layouts.
- Design Reviews: Lead and participate in formal schematic and layout reviews, risk assessments, and design trades.
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, and technically develop the Electrical and PCB Design Engineering team.
- Standards Enforcement: Establish and enforce engineering standards, design review rigor, and documentation quality appropriate for rigorous aerospace and defense programs.
- Resource Management: Assign work, balance technical loads, and serve as the escalation authority for complex or high‑risk design challenges.
- Talent Acquisition: Support hiring, onboarding, and career development of engineering staff.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: 10 years of professional electrical engineering experience, including system‑level design ownership.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience acting as a technical lead, principal engineer, or engineering supervisor while remaining hands‑on.
- Core Expertise: Strong background in electrical system architecture, schematic capture, PCB design, and EMI/EMC‑constrained design environments.
- Specialized Knowledge: Practical experience with TEMPEST, emission‑security‑driven design, or substantial experience designing electronics for highly controlled EMI/EMSEC environments.
- Industry Background: Experience delivering products for defense, aerospace, secure communications, or similarly regulated markets.
