Warehouse Material Control Specialist

Tech Electronics
Kansas, KS Full Time
POSTED ON 1/10/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/6/2026
WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT

This isn't just a warehouse position-it's a technical career development opportunity. We're looking for someone who wants to build expertise in fire safety, security, and communications systems while mastering warehouse operations. If you're the type of person who asks "what's in the box" instead of just moving boxes, this role offers a clear path from material control to technical project work.

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

  • Growth path from warehouse operations into technical fabrication, field support, or project coordination based on your interests and demonstrated capabilities
  • Work with cutting-edge fire safety, security, and communications technology-learn what you're handling and why it matters
  • Education reimbursement support for professional development and technical certifications
  • Small, growing family-owned company with strong culture and opportunity for visible impact
  • Support our Kansas City expansion to a larger, more sophisticated warehouse facility with advanced vertical racking systems

About Tech Electronics

Tech Electronics is a St. Louis-based family-owned company specializing in fire and life safety, security, and communications systems across the Midwest. We serve both large-scale project installations and ongoing service clients, combining technical expertise with a commitment to quality and safety.

The Role - What You'll Actually Do

Foundation (70%): Warehouse Material Control

You'll master the fundamentals of professional warehouse operations with an emphasis on accuracy and process discipline:

  • Execute daily material handling: receiving, shipping, staging, cycle counting, and inventory management
  • Maintain meticulous inventory accuracy using our Acumatica ERP system-every transaction matters because our technicians and project teams depend on reliable data
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and investigate discrepancies to root cause (not just adjust and move on)
  • Provide excellent service to field technicians and project teams for will-call and counter transactions
  • Support the transition to our expanded Kansas City warehouse, including setup and optimization of tall vertical racking systems
  • Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely (training provided if needed)

Growth Opportunity (30%): Technical Development

As you demonstrate capability and interest, you'll expand into technical work:

  • Light fabrication and assembly work-rack building, panel mounting, component preparation for installations
  • Learn product specifications, compatibility, and applications to become a technical resource for the team
  • Develop hands-on knowledge of fire safety, security, and communications equipment
  • Potential progression into field support, project coordination, or installation work based on your skills and career goals

What We're Looking For

We care more about your attitude, aptitude, and work ethic than your resume. Here's what matters most:

Must-Haves (Non-Negotiable)

  • Process discipline and attention to detail - You understand why procedures exist and follow them consistently, even when no one is watching
  • Technical curiosity - You genuinely want to understand how things work and ask questions beyond your immediate task
  • Computer proficiency - Comfortable learning new software systems; basic Excel skills; able to navigate digital tools
  • Ownership mindset - You take pride in your work, solve problems independently, and don't need constant supervision
  • Strong communication skills - You can work effectively with the local KC team while maintaining accountability to corporate standards set in St. Louis
  • Physical capability - Comfortable lifting up to 70 lbs, working at heights with proper safety equipment, and staying active throughout the day

Highly Valued (But We Can Work With You)

  • 2-4 years of warehouse, logistics, or inventory experience
  • Experience with ERP/WMS systems (we use Acumatica-we'll train you)
  • Background in electronics, AV systems, electrical components, or related technical fields
  • Hands-on experience with tools, assembly work, or fabrication
  • Forklift certification (we'll provide training if needed)
  • College coursework in technology, business, or related fields (not required but valued)

REPORTING STRUCTURE & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Location: Kansas City warehouse (no travel required)
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Reports to: Material Control Manager (based in St. Louis)
  • Works with: KC warehouse team, field technicians, project managers
  • What this means: You'll have significant autonomy in your day-to-day work while being supported by corporate expertise and standards. You'll collaborate closely with the local KC team and also work alongside our experienced KC warehouse specialist who will help you learn our systems and customer service approach.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly compensation commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive health insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off (2 weeks to start, increases with tenure)
  • Education reimbursement for professional development and technical certifications
  • Training and growth opportunities in technical systems and warehouse operations

Who Thrives In This Role

You're someone who:

  • Wants more than just a warehouse job-you're looking to build technical expertise
  • Finds satisfaction in getting systems and processes right, not just getting tasks done
  • Asks questions like "Why do we do it this way?" and "How does this component work?"
  • Takes pride in accuracy and follows through on commitments
  • Works well independently but also collaborates effectively with a team
  • Sees this role as a career builder, not just a paycheck

READY TO APPLY?

If you're ready to build a career in a growing company where your curiosity and work ethic are valued, we want to hear from you. Submit your resume and tell us why you're interested in growing beyond traditional warehouse work.
