Salary & Benefits: $145,000 – $195,000
Bonus Potential: 10% – 20% of base salary, based on company achievement of financial goals and personal achievement of personal goals to be defined.

Position Summary
The Controller will serve as the number-two financial executive to the CFO, overseeing all day-to-day accounting operations. This role is a "player-coach" position, requiring hands-on execution of complex construction accounting tasks—including AIA billing and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting—while also managing a small accounting team. The ideal candidate has deep experience in the percentage-of-completion method and project-based financial management.
Key Responsibilities
Project Accounting & Revenue Recognition
- AIA Billing: Manage the full-cycle AIA billing process, including G702/G703 forms, schedules of values, and meticulous tracking of retainage.
- WIP & Cost-to-Complete: Lead the preparation and analysis of monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules identifying overbillings/underbillings and coordinating with project managers to refine "cost-to-complete" estimates.
- Job Costing: Oversee job cost accounting to ensure labor, materials, subcontractors and overhead are accurately allocated to specific construction projects.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Financial Statements: Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Treasury & Reconciliations: Manage cash transactions, bank reconciliations, and banking relationships to ensure liquidity for ongoing projects and bonding requirements.
- Payroll: Oversee the payroll function, ensuring compliance with prevailing wage requirements associated with government contracts and accurate labor burden allocation.
- Accounts Payable: Oversee the accounts payable function, ensuring compliance with purchase order specifications, GL coding and assignment to projects.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Audit Readiness: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and bonding companies.
- Internal Controls: Maintain and improve internal control policies to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a construction-related Controller or Assistant Controller role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CMA preferred.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of construction accounting software (e.g., ProCore, Starbuilder, Sage 300 Construction/Timberline) and expert-level Excel skills.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the unique billing and service requirements of Building Management Systems and high-end HVAC/control systems.
