Job Summary
The Engine Builder (Level I or II) is responsible for assembling, rebuilding, and tuning high-performance engines and engine sub-assemblies. This role requires precision work to tight tolerances, strong mechanical aptitude, and accurate documentation of component data and build history.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assemble and build engines and engine sub-assemblies using industry-standard techniques
- Perform engine teardown, inspection, and reassembly
- Measure components to close tolerances and verify clearances
- Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges, indicators)
- Maintain detailed engine build records and component history
- Use required hand and shop tools safely and effectively
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1-4 years of engine building experience
- Strong understanding of engine mechanics and diagnostics
- Ability to operate standard shop equipment (hoists, jacks, hand tools, etc.)
- Proficient in shop math and precision measurement
- Basic computer skills and strong organizational skills
- High attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or post-secondary education in an automotive-related field
- Experience with engine teardown/build documentation and build charts
- Experience with cylinder heads, carburetors, or fuel injection systems
- Powertrain calibration, diagnostics, or controls experience
- Ability to perform basic fabrication, welding, or wiring
- Experience diagnosing electrical issues
- Engine dynamometer setup and testing experience
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed
- ASE or state certifications
