Description
Lead, build, and make an impact in rural healthcare. TeamHealth is seeking an experienced primary care physician to help build and lead a new rural health clinic expanding access to high-quality, integrated healthcare throughout Stanly County, North Carolina, and surrounding communities.
This leadership role focuses on primary care and physician collaboration with nurse practitioners and physician assistants. The medical director is not responsible for clinical supervision of the clinic's licensed clinical social worker, PMHNP, or medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program, which are supported by dedicated behavioral health leadership.
This is an opportunity to help build a modern, team-based practice while providing patient care, mentoring APCs, leading quality initiatives, and improving healthcare access in an underserved rural community.

Compensation
- Competitive compensation with an estimated range of $110 to $110 hourly with no cap on productivity income potential
- Monthly medical director leadership stipend

Responsibilities
Clinical
- Provide comprehensive outpatient primary care
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic conditions
- Promote preventive care and patient education
- Coordinate specialty care
- Maintain timely, accurate EHR documentation
- Collaborate with and mentor NPs/PAs
- Support onboarding and clinician development
- Lead quality improvement initiatives
- Review documentation and charts as required
- Promote patient safety, regulatory compliance, and survey readiness
- Assist with clinician recruitment and retention
- Build relationships with community physicians, hospitals, and referral partners
- Partner with behavioral health clinicians to support coordinated patient care
- Collaborate on workflow and quality initiatives
- No clinical supervision or operational oversight of behavioral health or MAT services
Qualifications
Required
- MD or DO
- Board certified/eligible in family or internal medicine
- North Carolina medical license (or ability to obtain)
- DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
- Minimum two years of primary care experience
- Prior physician leadership or medical director experience
- Experience collaborating with NPs/PAs
- Rural health experience
- Interest in quality improvement and practice development
- Passion for mentoring clinicians and building high-performing teams
