Team One Credit Union is seeking a full-time Collections Specialist for the Main Saginaw branch, located at 520 Hayden St. This role is responsible for managing delinquent consumer accounts by performing collection activities, skip tracing, and asset recovery while ensuring compliance with collection laws and credit union policies. They prepare documentation and reports, recommend recovery actions, and represent the Credit Union in small claims when necessary. This role also involves providing members with debt management guidance, assisting with basic financial counseling, and supporting departmental objectives to minimize losses and improve recovery efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all collection transaction activities for delinquent consumer accounts
- Collect on all past due accounts in an effective and efficient manner, including forgery/NSF checks and negative balance deposit shares
- Recommend recovery action to Collections Supervisor
- Comprehend, research, and prepare all collection forms/documents and monthly reporting within area of responsibility
- Utilize all available resources for skip tracing and asset recovery
- Exercise sound judgement and discretion in making collection decisions
- Demonstrate knowledge of lending instruments and allowable collection activity
- Possess knowledge of credit union interest rates and fees
- Utilize effective member service skills to communicate debt management principles and provide basic financial counseling
- Acquire and retain knowledge of bankruptcy and collection laws within area of responsibility, including probate and estate statutes
- Display high commitment for and actively participate in reaching department objectives
- Demonstrate ability to perform basic MSR functions for collection purposes and member assistance within scope of responsibility
- Effectively file small claims and represent the Credit Union in court proceedings
- Demonstrate ability to identify/classify potential loan losses and bankruptcies
- Recommend policy and procedure changes to limit/recover fraud and deposit losses
Qualifications:
- 1 years of experience in collections, lending, or related.
- Working knowledge of lending instruments, credit union products, and allowable collection activities.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to provide debt management guidance and basic financial counseling.
- Proficiency in preparing documents, reports, and court filings.
- Sound judgement, discretion, and problem-solving skills in making collections decisions.
Starting wage will be dependent upon multiple factors including skills and experience.
