Location: Port Arthur, TX

Shift: 1st (6 AM- 4:30 PM, Monday- Thursday, 10 hours)

Title: Cutter/Grinder
Department(s): Manufacturing
Reports to: Foreman
General Purpose of the Job:

To cut pipe and to assist in the overall production process. Clean up pipe and fitting ends by grinding to prepare it for fitting

Summary of Major Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Cutter must confirm pipe is in good condition, free from dents, warping, or damage. Any poor-quality pipe will have foreman’s approval prior to use.
  • Confirm every heat number prior to cutting pipe.
  • Be sure pipe has description of what it is and has a heat number on it.
  • Verify that every drop piece must contain the job number/ heat number/ material type/ schedule.
  • Scan every piece into the computer and make sure it is accepted.
  • Staple the cut list sheets together by issue number upon completion.
  • Every cut shall be double checked for length, and both ends MUST be square to within 1/32” and every piece will have cutters initials.
  • Information about cut piece will be written on colored tape which coordinates to the type of material being cut. This information must include spool number, item number, end prep, and length. Any writing placed directly on pipe must be done with a Martex marker (NO SHARPIES)
  • Plan your cuts to eliminate any waste or small drop pieces. Utilize your pipe material to the fullest extent.
  • Etch all spool numbers and heat numbers on spools 6” and less in length. Use black marker to highlight etching.
  • Dispose of all scrap immediately in the correct recycling dumpster and keep area clean and organized
  • Conducts work safely and follows all safety procedures. Rejects work that is not safe and discusses the situation with supervisor.
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned

  • Prepare fittings by grinding
  • Unload fitting wagons and organize on floor by job number
  • Wheelabrate pipe
  • Blast fittings in blast cabinet
  • Group material and drawings and stacks on a cart(s).
  • Load and unload pipe on racks.
  • Conducts work safely and follows all safety procedures. Rejects work that is not safe and discusses the situation with supervisor.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Less than high school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondents. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
