Job Summary:
The Summer Custodian performs routine custodial and maintenance duties to ensure a clean, safe, and orderly environment in school buildings and on grounds during the summer months. This role supports summer facility preparation, cleaning, and minor repair projects in preparation for the upcoming academic year.
Key Responsibilities:
Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors in classrooms, hallways, and common areas
Clean and disinfect restrooms, replenish supplies
Dust and wipe surfaces including desks, counters, and windows
Move furniture, supplies, and equipment as needed for cleaning or summer setup
Assist with stripping and waxing floors, carpet cleaning, and other deep-cleaning projects
Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, minor repairs, or painting
Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly
Assist with landscaping or exterior maintenance tasks if needed
Report damages, safety hazards, or needed repairs to supervisors
Follow all safety procedures and use cleaning chemicals appropriately
Qualifications:
High school diploma or currently enrolled in high school (preferred)
Previous custodial or janitorial experience is a plus, but not required
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks for extended periods
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
Must pass background check and/or drug screening as required by the district
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed indoors, with occasional outdoor tasks
Exposure to cleaning agents and equipment noise
Requires standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motion
