Spirit Lake Schools is seeking an innovative science teacher to teach students in grades 6-8 for the 2026-2027 school year. Candidates must be able to create an authentic learning environment focused on rigor, inquiry and student learning. Applicants should possess effective teaching strategies and show a commitment to student learning that focuses on life development. We are seeking individuals who will demonstrate professional integrity through leadership, engage in continuous professional growth, build positive relationships and exhibit strong communication skills with students, faculty and families.
Qualifications and responsibilities:
- Design and facilitate inquiry-based, hands-on science learning experiences aligned to standards.
- Create authentic learning opportunities such as labs, projects, and collaborative investigations.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Promote curiosity, innovation, and critical thinking.
- Utilize technology and digital tools to enhance instruction and student engagement.
- Build a classroom culture that encourages risk-taking, perseverance, and respect for diverse perspectives.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and support student success.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with families regarding student progress and learning goals.
- Support the development of students’ organizational, study, and self-advocacy skills.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to science instruction, middle school practices, and innovation.
- Demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and a growth mindset in a progressive learning environment
- Certified through the Iowa BOEE to teach grades 6-8 science, or willing to seek middle school endorsement.
