Summary: To provide the collaborative learning environment necessary to assure students master necessary 21st Century Skills in order to be productive and responsible citizens. The teacher works collaboratively with peers and teacher leaders to provide curriculum, instruction, and assessment toward that end.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform duties in accordance with the current written agreement established between the
School Board and the bargaining unit
- Participate fully in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process
- Fidelity and active participation within the PLC team in response to the unpacking of standards, team-developed common formative assessments, team analysis of data, and collectively providing interventions and extension
- Work collaboratively to achieve Audubon Community School District’s mission and vision
- Participate in Peer Observation to improve instruction
- Meet and instruct classes in the locations and at the times designated by the class/master schedule of the building
- Develop both short and long-term lesson plans for each course taught and demonstrates evidence of adequate preparation and planning
- Base instruction on specific learning targets derived from the Iowa Core
- Develop material for varied learning styles, including large group, small group, remedial instruction & enrichment to meet the needs of each individual student
- Teach the assigned instructional program using the adopted resources, planning for, and evaluating of the same
- Establish high expectations that enable students to achieve a level of excellence
- Establish and maintains standards of student behavior necessary to provide a productive learning atmosphere in the classroom
- Build positive relationships with students in order to promote a safe, supportive learning environment
- Take appropriate disciplinary action for students exhibiting misconduct, and refers cases to the building administration or other appropriate staff when such is necessary for effective corrective measures
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day and at other school-approved events
- Provide guidance to each student, thus promoting his/her welfare and educational development.
- Cooperate with the guidance staff in implementing guidance activities and make use of their services
- Administer and monitor standardized tests, following acceptable testing protocols
- Participate on faculty, curriculum and departmental committees and other developmental programs
- Inform parents of student growth and social development, excessive absence, tardiness, unsatisfactory work and behavior
- Respect the personality and individuality of students and keeps inviolate their confidences
- Cooperate with the attendance department in the child accounting function
- Requisition the necessary instructional material at the proper time
- Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping students solve academic, social, physical and emotional needs
- Create and maintain an environment for effective learning
- Effectively implement the goals and objectives of the district’s multi-cultural, non-sexist educational plan in his/her area
- Maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, parents and the community
- Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job and communicate the same to the community
- Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility
- Maintain confidentiality in the school operation
- Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules
- Perform such other duties as are assigned by authorized representatives of the School Board

Education and Experience:
*BA with appropriate endorsement for position
Evaluation: Teachers on an initial license will be evaluated annually. Teachers on a standard license will be evaluated a minimum of every three years but may be evaluated more frequently as deemed necessary by the building principal. Teachers will be evaluated in terms of proficiency in meeting the Iowa Teaching Standards. Evaluations will be completed by the teacher’s building principal.
