Job Description
Position Title: High School Basketball Cheer Coach
Reports To: Activities Director and Building Principal
Position Type: Coaching Stipend Assignment
Purpose of Position
The High School Basketball Cheer Coach is responsible for leading and supervising the cheer program in support of the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. This position promotes school spirit, student engagement, teamwork, and positive representation of the district through safe, organized, and enthusiastic cheer participation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership
Plan, organize, and lead cheer practices and performances for basketball season.
Teach cheer fundamentals, routines, crowd leadership, and appropriate sideline behavior.
Promote sportsmanship, school pride, and positive student involvement at all events.
Student Supervision & Development
Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and performances.
Encourage personal growth, leadership, accountability, and teamwork among cheer members.
Maintain a positive and inclusive environment that supports all participants.
Game & Event Responsibilities
Coordinate cheers, halftime routines, and spirit activities during home and away basketball games.
Collaborate with the Activities Director regarding schedules, transportation, and event expectations.
Ensure cheer members are prepared, punctual, and appropriately dressed for all events.
Safety & Compliance
Promote safe cheer practices and follow all district, conference, and state guidelines.
Ensure proper use of equipment and safe stunt progression (if applicable).
Complete required coaching certifications and training.
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate effectively with athletes, families, staff, and administration.
Work collaboratively with basketball coaches, event staff, and other activity sponsors.
Provide clear expectations for participation, conduct, and performance.
Administrative Duties
Assist with organizing tryouts (if applicable), team rules, and season planning.
Support inventory and care of uniforms, poms, and cheer equipment.
Uphold district policies, including eligibility, attendance, and behavior expectations.
Qualifications
Previous cheer coaching or cheerleading experience preferred.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to work positively with high school students in a team-based setting.
Knowledge of safety standards related to cheer activities.
Terms of Employment
Seasonal assignment during the high school basketball season.
Compensation based on the district’s approved coaching stipend schedule.
Evaluation conducted by the Activities Director and/or Principal.
