East Union Community School District is seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and organized professional to join our team as a Secondary School Counselor. As a vital member of our staff, you will support students’ academic, career, and social-emotional development. This role focuses on helping students plan for their futures, providing individual and group counseling, and collaborating with families and community resources.

At East Union, we prioritize the well-being of both our students and our staff. This position follows a 4-day school week schedule, with most Mondays off. Enjoy a consistent three-day weekend to recharge, pursue professional development, or spend time with family, allowing you to bring your best self to our students Tuesday through Friday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support: Provide individual and group counseling for academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs; support students through crisis situations.
Academic Planning: Guide course selection and long-term planning; monitor graduation progress and manage credit recovery or alternative pathways.
Career Readiness: Facilitate college applications, scholarships, and financial aid (FAFSA); coordinate job shadowing, internships, and career fairs.
Assessment: Coordinate and administer standardized testing (State assessments, ACT, PSAT) and interpret results for stakeholders.
Collaboration: Partner with teachers, administrators, and parents; lead student support teams and participate in IEP/504 meetings.
Program Management: Develop a comprehensive counseling program based on best practices and maintain compliant student records.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
Licensure: Valid Iowa School Counselor license (or ability to obtain).
Core Skills: Deep knowledge of adolescent development, strong organizational skills, and a high standard for confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred: Experience in a secondary setting, familiarity with Iowa graduation requirements, and training in trauma-informed practices.
