What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Girls/Boys Bowling Coach position at TeachIowa?
The Head Bowling Coach oversees all aspects of the high school bowling program, including coaching student-athletes, organizing practices and competitions, and promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill development. The two positions could be filled by one person.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Player Development
- Plan and conduct effective bowling practices and training sessions
- Teach fundamentals such as technique, scoring strategy, and lane play
- Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback
- Develop individualized improvement plans for athletes
Program Management
- Create practice schedules and competition lineups
- Assist the Activities Director to coordinate matches, tournaments, and travel arrangements
- Maintain equipment
Leadership & Mentorship
- Promote sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork
- Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes
- Monitor academic progress and eligibility of players
- Communicate regularly with players, parents, and school staff
Administrative Duties
- Ensure compliance with school policies and athletic association rules
- Manage program budget and fundraising efforts
- Complete required paperwork (rosters, eligibility forms, reports)
- Attend coaches’ meetings and professional development sessions
Safety & Supervision
- Ensure a safe practice and competition environment
- Supervise athletes during all team activities and travel
Qualifications
- Iowa Coaching Certification
- Knowledge of bowling techniques, rules, and competitive strategy
- Previous coaching or playing experience preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work with high school–aged students
Work Schedule
- Practices and matches held after school and evenings
- Occasional weekend tournaments and travel
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Demonstrate bowling techniques when needed
- Lift and carry equipment
