What are the responsibilities and job description for the Evening Custodian position at TeachIowa?
Evening Custodial position, hours 3-11 Monday-Friday.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To support all board and administrative policies of the school district at all times.
- To keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas safe, neat, and clean at all times.
- To regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- To shovel walks and steps as appropriate and apply salt as directed.
- To check daily to ensure that all exit doors and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Perform cleaning in classrooms daily as instructed.
- To clean corridors after school each day and during the day when their conditions require it.
- To scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors daily and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- To clean up as needed from after school events ensuring building is ready for next school day.
- To wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently, if needed.
- To keep grounds free from rubbish.
- To keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Perform minor building repairs.
- To report major repairs needed promptly to the maintenance director.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as trained and assigned to do.
- To report immediately to the principal and maintenance director, any damage to school property and remove graffiti in a timely manner.
- To remain on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and a custodian’s attendance is required by the principal and maintenance director.
- To assume responsibility for the opening and/or closing of the building each day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Report to the maintenance director any needed equipment to complete assigned duties, as well as any supplies low on inventory.
- To respond as needed to fire/tornado drills, learn the fire alarm system, and be able to operate the system as needed, Report immediately, any problems concerning the fire alarm system, extinguishers, and pull stations.
- To be accustomed to locations of fire extinguishers in the building and know the proper way to use an extinguisher.
- Report any electrical hazards to maintenance director, ie. damaged cords, outlets, or electrical components.
- To move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal and maintenance director. 50 lb. lifting requirement.
- To comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- To launder items as requested and sort and distribute all laundered items to appropriate departments.
- Respond to unscheduled maintenance requests in an efficient, timely, and cooperative manner. Learn to prioritize duties when unscheduled requests are needed immediately.
- To complete neat and time efficient painting projects and while doing so, protect all other surfaces.
- Report any injury immediately that incurred during work shift to supervisor or building principal.
- Assemble furniture, shelving, and misc. items as needed.
- Unload trucks at dock as needed.
- Shall be responsible with school issued keys and report any lost or misplacement immediately.
- Use maintenance tools as manufacturer recommends, return to proper assigned location of tools.
- Clean all bodily fluids up as trained with proper personal protective equipment in a timely manner.
- Use school purchased supplies as trained and by manufacturers recommendations.
