Summary: The school custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the building and physical plant, and supporting a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students. In addition to regular building maintenance functions, the school custodian provides direct support to classroom teachers in set up and maintenance of furniture and equipment. The school custodian also serves as a role model for students by displaying a professional, courteous, and helpful nature. Assist in campus security as necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
- Clean assigned areas to a high level of standards set by the Facility Maintenance Director
- Perform assigned duties on an as needed basis
- Report building problems to Facility Maintenance Director
- Maintain equipment in a clean and working order
- Assist students, staff and other custodians in a respectful manner
- Review custodial duties to stay abreast of job duties and responsibilities
- Have a general knowledge of other shift duties to cover as needed
- Maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, parents and the community
- Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job and communicate the same to the community
- Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility
- Maintain confidentiality in the school operation
- Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
*High School education or higher
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk freely throughout the school. The employee needs to be able to push cleaning equipment to specified areas. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work Environment: While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to various building temperatures and outdoor weather conditions. The employee’s primary duties will be inside the building, however, during inclement weather duties will include snow and ice removal.
