Assistant Head Cook, Middle School
BASIC FUNCTION:
To assist the Building Head Cook prepare and serve meals to students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MANDATORY:
- High school diploma
- Ability to work with people
- Genuine interest in students, K-12
- Some lifting required
DESIRABLE:
- Experience as a food service worker
- Experience as a manager.
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:
- Employed by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent.
- Reports to the Food Service Director.
- Salary is set by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Education.
TECHNICAL:
- Assist the building Head Cook in the daily preparation and serving of meals. Will be responsible for Head Cook Duties when Head Cook is unavailable for any reason.
- Assist with clean-up of the kitchen and commons area after meals have been served.
- Receive, store and organize delivered food and supply items appropriately in a timely manner. Please consult with your head Cook regarding completing this task.
- Demonstrate organization and professionalism in the fulfillment of responsibilities of the job.
- Dress appropriately for the position and work required. This includes
- wearing a clean apron (change through shift as needed)
- Hair needs to be pulled back/up and covered with either a hairnet, cap or visor while in the kitchen
- Any facial hair will need to be covered with a beard net
- Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.
- Must be willing to communicate with the FSD/Assistant FSD in a professional and respectful manner.
HUMAN:
- Works closely with kitchen to continually improve the food service program.
- Greet all students, faculty, staff and visitors courteously.
- Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.
- Be willing to help where needed.
- Demonstrate and maintain a positive attitude toward school, faculty, students and job. Community the same to the community.
- Accept constructive criticism and suggestions. Seek to improve each job responsibility.
- Maintain confidentiality in the school operation.
EDUCATIONAL:
- Willing to complete 8 educational hours yearly during time of employment
CULTURAL
- Model appropriate work habits for other food service employees.
- Share ideas and suggestions with supervisor.
- Maintains positive attitude in all work situations.
- Maintains high standards for all aspects of the food service program.
- Provide constructive criticism when concerns arise about issues in the kitchen.
- Attends food service training programs whenever possible.
SYMBOLIC
- Communicates with students, parents and staff members about food service program.
- Attends school functions when appropriate.
- Promotes food service program through the school and community.
