JOB SUMMARY
Reports to: Superintendent of Schools
JOB SUMMARY: The High School Principal is the instructional leader of their building, responsible for establishing an instructional vision and focused plan for improving student achievement; monitoring and supervising instruction; supporting teachers in improving their instructional practice while creating a community of continuous learning for all staff and students; and fostering a culture of high expectation for students and staff. In addition, the principal will strive to build strong partnerships with families, the community, and community businesses, creating a safe and supportive school climate while effectively managing the operational, technical, and financial aspects of the building.

- Has experience and skills to strengthen online learning opportunities for students and provide teachers with ample opportunity to improve their approach and execution of online learning.
- Understands the basics of Iowa School Finance and budgeting.
- Will establish/maintain programs that will provide a high quality education and continue the tradition of excellence the Osage Schools are known for.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate the appropriate staff personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master`s Degree in School Administration.
- At least five (5) years of teaching experience.
- A valid principal`s certification from the Department of Education and current evaluator approval.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical at employee expense.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
JOB CLASSIFICATION & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Exempt staff; building principal, grades Pre K-4, 5-8, or 9-12.
- A 225 day contract as established by the Board of Education.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement and enforce district policies.
- Recruit, hire (with approval from Superintendent), supervise, and evaluate all building certified staff and appropriate support staff.
- Recommends necessary changes in the curriculum to aid in increasing the overall quality of education.
- Supervises the registration of students for their classes.
- Assists and helps lead staff in-services and professional development opportunities.
- Coordinates extended learning opportunities for students.
- Attends regular professional meetings and work sessions at the AEA, SAI, etc.
- Disseminates information on best practices to staff members.
- Helps clarify and lead the education programs along with district goals and values.
- Aids in the development and supervision of the TLC program.
- Encourages communication and collaboration among all staff members through the PLC process.
- Leads Building Leadership Team for improvement and shared decision-making.
- Spends the appropriate amount of time in the classroom to be an educational leader.
- Provide a positive and professional role model for the District.
- Oversees the implementation of new materials, textbooks, electronic resources, and other instructional materials with involvement and approval from the Superintendent.
- Plans and coordinates transitional experiences for students going from the elementary level to the middle school and from the middle school to the high school.
- Creates the budget for the school building. Approves building level purchases.
- Attends administrative team meetings as established by the superintendent.
- Serves as an ex officio member of all committees and councils within the school.
- Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases.
- Submits appropriate data for the BED`s document and other state reports.
- Advises in the development of the school calendar.
- Approves timesheets/hours/schedules for support staff in his/her building.
- Monitors and approves all purchase orders related to classroom use.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary to ensure safety and is in accordance with due process and rights of students.
- Monitors hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, and other common areas for safety reasons.
- Shares in the supervision of extra-curricular events with the Activities Director and other administrators.
- To carry out any other duties as reasonably expected or assigned by the Superintendent.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy.
The evaluation will be completed by the Superintendent.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment, and may include duties performed on field trips away from the school. Lighting is adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by dust or other materials. Temperatures can vary with participation in outdoor activities associated with recesses.
