To provide leadership, organization, and supervision for the district’s athletic programs while also delivering high-quality physical education instruction that promotes student wellness, sportsmanship, teamwork, and lifelong fitness.
Athletic Director Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise all 7–12 athletic programs and activities.
- Ensure athletic programs comply with state association, conference, and district regulations and policies.
- Schedule athletic contests, officials, transportation, and facility usage.
- Inventory of equipment and uniforms.
- Evaluate coaching staff in collaboration with administration.
- Organize preseason meetings and communicate expectations to athletes, coaches, and parents.
- Promote positive sportsmanship, student conduct, and academic eligibility.
- Coordinate athletic event management including supervision, security, ticketing, and game operations.
- Maintain accurate athletic records and required reports.
- Work collaboratively with custodial, transportation, and administrative staff regarding athletic events.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, officials, and community members.
- Ensure safety procedures and emergency protocols are followed at all athletic events and practices.
Physical Education Teacher Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging physical education lessons aligned with district and state standards.
- Promote physical fitness, wellness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits.
- Establish and maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Assess student performance and maintain accurate records of grades and attendance.
- Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.
- Effectively manage student behavior and encourage respectful participation.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress.
- Maintain and care for gymnasium equipment and instructional materials.
- Participate in professional development and district initiatives.
- Support the overall educational mission and extracurricular programs of the district.
Qualifications
- Valid Iowa teaching license with appropriate endorsements.
- Health Endorsement Preferred
- Appropriate coaching authorization/certification as required.
- Previous coaching and/or athletic administration experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and schedules effectively.
- Knowledge of athletic rules, safety procedures, and student eligibility requirements.
