5th Grade Science Teacher

Due to an internal transfer, Sioux Center Community School District is seeking a highly motivated 5th Grade Science Teacher beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. 

We are looking for a passionate 5th Grade Instructor who will be responsible for teaching our students science skills. In this position, you will create lesson plans, develop instructional materials, and assess students’ progress. You will also be expected to provide a comprehensive educational program for the students of the district, including daily instruction and periodic testing of students’ knowledge of the subject matter. Each student will be provided with the necessary skills to function in a rapidly changing world.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (minimum)
• Iowa Teaching License (with appropriate endorsements)
• Mandatory Reporter: Child Abuse

Responsibilities

• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students.
• Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
• Implement instructional programs within guidelines of district curriculum.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
• Instruct students individually and in groups, using teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
• Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
• Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
• Maintain an inventory of classroom instructional supplies, textbooks, and materials, and exercise control of the care of the same.
• Be informed of the educational philosophy, goals, and policies of the district.
• Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Maintain district policies and regulations.
• Participate in initiating, implementing and coordinating any changes in curriculum.
• Perform other duties as delegated by the building administration and in compliance with the negotiated agreement.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.
