We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Music Teacher/Vocal Director to join our Middle School educators as an addition to the school’s music team. Responsibilities include delivering standards-based general music and choir instruction, directing concerts and school performances, support student growth in vocal technique and music literacy, and collaborating with staff to support the overall success of students.  The successful candidate will demonstrate strong classroom management, effective communication with families, and high expectations for all learners.  In addition, the candidate will serve as the director of the Sioux Center Middle School Show Choir.  

The ideal candidate should have a passion for music education, experience in working with young musicians of various abilities, and the capability to foster a supportive, engaging, and inclusive educational environment, building the love of music through engaging instruction and performance opportunities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education or related field.
    • Valid State of Iowa teaching license with 5-12 Music endorsement.
    • Experience teaching middle school learners in a classroom or private lesson setting.
    • Demonstrate aptitude for performing tasks listed.
    • Must exhibit ethical practices and be a role model to students.
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of a variety of music genres and traditions.
    • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an inclusive learning environment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Teaching:

  • Teach 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Choir, introducing students to various genres, music reading, and ensembles.
  • Teach 6th Grade General Music Classes, teaching foundational music concepts, singing, and appreciation for diverse musical styles and traditions.

Individual and Small Group Instruction:

  • Conduct individual and small group lessons for middle school students, advancing their musicianship and performance abilities.

Curriculum Development and Instruction:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate music lessons aligned with school standards and goals.
  • Design differentiated instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Select an age-appropriate repertoire that challenges and excites students while fostering skill development.

Performance and Events:

  • Organize and direct student performances, including concerts and recitals for choir students and general music classes.
  • Collaborate with school staff to coordinate performances for special school events or assemblies.
  • Serve as primary director of Show Choir.

Administrative and Professional Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to students and parents as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to ensure student success and engagement.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school community events.

  • FLSA Classification: Exempt, full-time
