Holyoke Public Schools (HPS) serves 5,400 students (of which over 80% are Latinx) in 12 schools and employs nearly 1,500 people.The District was placed into receivership by the State of Massachusetts in Spring 2015, because of struggling performance, and has since implemented a Turnaround Plan that has led to expanded choice programs (such as dual language, STEM, and early college) and new opportunities for students to explore the arts, sports, sciences, and local and world cultures. Since 2015, the District has experienced numerous accomplishments for instance: doubling access to PreK programming 10-point graduation rate increase 85 percent increase in access to early college programming 9-point increase (to 22%) in hiring teachers of color.

 

Position Overview:

This dual-role position, funded by the Commonwealth Preschool Partnership Initiative (CPPI) grant, is designed to provide high-quality support and leadership across early childhood classrooms. The candidate will dedicate 50% of their time to serving as an Instructional Coach for CPPI-funded preschool classrooms and 50% as the Grant Coordinator, overseeing the day-to-day implementation and compliance of the CPPI grant.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Coach (50%)

  • Provide on-site coaching, mentoring, and professional development for CPPI preschool classroom educators.

  • Support classroom teachers in implementing high-quality instructional strategies aligned with MA Early Learning Guidelines and curriculum standards.

  • Conduct regular classroom observations, provide feedback, and support educators in developing individualized professional growth plans.

  • Model effective teaching practices and co-teach as needed to demonstrate strategies.

  • Facilitate data-informed instruction through the analysis of child outcomes and assessment tools (e.g., Teaching Strategies GOLD, Three Cheers for Learning, Ecers, CLASS, etc.).

  • Promote inclusive, culturally responsive practices and strong family engagement strategies.

  • Collaborate with administrators and community-based partners to ensure alignment across settings.
  • Other duties as assigned by The Director of Early Child Education

Grant Coordinator (50%)

  • Serve as the lead point of contact for all CPPI grant activities and reporting requirements.

  • Monitor grant-funded program implementation to ensure compliance with state guidelines and local goals.

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the CPPI grant, including budgeting, data collection, contracts, and procurement.

  • Schedule and lead stakeholder meetings, including family engagement events, provider convenings, and cross-sector collaboration sessions.

  • Prepare required grant reports, updates, and documentation for submission to the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).

  • Ensure timelines and milestones are met under grant deliverables.

  • Foster partnerships with local providers, school district staff, and other community agencies to support the CPPI initiative.
  • Other duties as assigned by The Director of Early Child Education

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in early childhood education, with at least 2 years in a coaching, mentoring, or leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of early childhood curriculum, assessment, and instructional best practices.

  • Experience managing grants, programs, or projects with multiple stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage time effectively and balance dual responsibilities.

  • Proficiency with data analysis and digital tools (e.g., Excel, Google Workspace, assessment platforms).

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaboration in early learning systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with MA EEC regulations, CPPI framework, and community-based preschool partnerships.

  • Experience with CLASS observation tool and/or other coaching frameworks.

  • Bilingual or multilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
