General Purpose of Job:
The Harvest Operator is responsible for operating machinery and performing manual labor to harvest crops in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive and control farm equipment to harvest crops such as peas with attention to surroundings and operation of equipment in a safe and careful manner. May also include operating stationary equipment to perform post-harvest tasks.
- Perform pre-inspection of all equipment before operating machinery and notify the supervisor immediately if adjustments, repairs or service are needed. Communicate with supervisors and/or peers in person, telephone or written form.
- Observe and listen to machinery while operating to detect any equipment malfunctions.
- Manipulate controls to set, activate and adjust mechanisms on machinery.
- Use of hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning and moving materials and manipulating things.
- Load of hoppers, containers, truck trailers with agricultural products being harvested.
- Perform sanitation and inspections at the end of each shift.
- Perform manual labor, including picking, sorting, and loading crops into transport vehicles.
- Adhere to proper harvesting techniques to ensure product quality and prevent crop damage.
- Follow all company and regulatory safety procedures while operating machinery and handling crops.
- Maintain and clean equipment, ensuring proper function and reducing downtime.
- Assist in field preparation, and general farm maintenance as needed.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper hygiene practices while handling crops.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and entire body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling and handling of materials. Ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Attention to details at a distance and close range, depth perception, ability to move quick and have a quick reaction time and make sound judgement calls.
- Willingness to work in outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, and various weather conditions.
- Ability to work long hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by the harvest schedule.
- Basic understanding of safety and agricultural regulations.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Compliance with all employment regulations.
- Horseplay and not paying attention to equipment will not be tolerated. This type of activity will result in disciplinary action including but not limited to termination of employment.
Work Conditions:
- Work is seasonal and temporary, based on crop cycles and harvest demand.
- Work environment includes exposure to dust, chemicals, farm equipment noise, and extreme temperatures.

Benefits of a Harvest Operator:
- Hourly wage $19.82
- Overtime may be available depending on state and federal labor laws.
- Workers' compensation insurance as required by law.
