TBG | The Bachrach Group is partnered with one of the most prominent CPA firms in Texas on their search for a PROPERTY ACCOUNTANT. The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of general ledger / full cycle accounting and financial reporting experience within real estate, financial services or public accounting. A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or any related field is required as well as hands-on experience with Yardi. CPA or parts passed is highly preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Accounting & Recordkeeping—
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records for assigned properties, including general ledger activity, journal entries, accruals, and supporting documentation
- Record and review property-level transactions, ensuring proper coding and compliance with company policies and accounting standards
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes for assigned portfolios
- Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, tenant billing, and cash management activities as needed
Financial Reporting—
- Prepare and distribute timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, and supporting schedules
- Analyze financial performance and prepare variance analyses comparing actual results to budgets and forecasts
- Provide financial reporting and ad hoc analyses to property managers, asset managers, clients, and senior leadership
- Assist in preparing ownership and lender reporting packages
Account Reconciliations—
- Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, security deposits, tenant receivables, prepaid expenses, and other balance sheet accounts
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial data
- Maintain supporting documentation for all reconciliations and audit requirements
Budgeting & Forecasting—
- Collaborate with property management teams to develop annual operating budgets and capital expenditure budgets
- Assist in preparing financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and operating plans
- Monitor budget performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements
Compliance & Internal Controls—
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, lease agreements, management agreements, and regulatory requirements
- Support annual audits, tax preparation processes, and other compliance-related activities
- Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
- Assist with property tax reporting, sales/use tax compliance, and other real estate-related financial obligations
Portfolio & Client Support—
- Serve as a financial resource to property management teams and clients
- Respond to client inquiries regarding financial performance, accounting transactions, and reporting requirements
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation or CPA candidacy preferred.
- Experience managing financial reporting for multiple properties and ownership structures.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial modeling and data analysis) including property management and accounting systems such as MRI, RealPage, AppFolio, Entrata, or similar platform.
- Hands-on working knowledge of Yardi is a must and 7 years of property accounting experience.
- Familiarity with commercial, residential, retail, office, industrial, or mixed-use property accounting.
