Job Summary
The Mechanic reports to the Service Center Manager and is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel‑powered lift trucks and industrial equipment. Technicians in this role perform preventive maintenance, mechanical repairs, and troubleshooting of hydraulic and electrical systems using proper diagnostic tools.
This position offers hands‑on experience with diesel, gasoline, and propane engines, hydraulic systems, and industrial components. As experience grows, technicians are trusted with larger repair projects and increased responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect forklifts and industrial equipment to identify repair needs
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines and related systems
- Troubleshoot and service hydraulic systems (pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses)
- Diagnose and repair basic to intermediate electrical systems using schematics and meters
- Perform preventative maintenance to improve reliability and equipment uptime
- Assist with or independently complete larger repair projects as skills develop
- Operate equipment to test and verify repairs
- Perform fabrication or welding work as needed
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills
What We’re Looking For
- 1–5 years of experience in diesel, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, or mechanical repair
- Working knowledge of engines, hydraulics, or mechanical systems
- Willingness and ability to learn electrical and diagnostic troubleshooting
- Experience using hand tools, shop equipment, and basic diagnostic tools
- MUST HAVE YOUR OWN BASIC TOOLS -SPECIALITY TOOLS ARE PROVIDED
- Welding or fabrication experience is a plus but not required
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals or schematics
- Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer skills for service documentation
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work (bending, climbing, standing)
Education & Experience
- Vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics, hydraulics, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance preferred
- 1–2 years experience: strong training and mentorship provided
- 3–5 years experience: opportunity for faster progression and increased responsibility
- Formal schooling may substitute for some hands‑on experience
