What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Protection and Control Technician position at Taurus Industrial Group, LLC?
We are seeking an experienced Lead Protection and Control (PandC;) Technician / Engineer to support utility,
industrial, renewable, and EPC projects across transmission and distribution systems. This individual will lead field
testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup activities for substations, relay protection systems, switchgear,
and SCADA integration projects.
The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader with hands-on relay testing and commissioning experience who can
mentor junior technicians, interface with customers, and drive projects safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Lead PandC; testing and commissioning activities on utility and industrial substations
Perform acceptance testing, maintenance testing, and troubleshooting of protective relays and control systems
Read and interpret three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and AC/DC elementary drawings
Test and commission SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, Beckwith, and Basler relays
Manage field crews and coordinate with customers, EPC contractors, and engineers
Develop and review test plans, switching procedures, and commissioning reports
Ensure compliance with NERC, OSHA, NFPA 70E, and customer safety standards
Support outage planning and emergency response work as needed
Travel to project sites throughout the region
Qualifications
5 years of Protection and Control testing and commissioning experience
Strong understanding of utility substations and power systems
Experience With Transmission And Distribution Systems Preferred
Proficient with relay test equipment such as Doble, Omicron, and Megger
Ability to troubleshoot complex protection and control systems
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to work independently in the field
Valid drivers license and ability to travel
Preferred Experience
NETA certification
Electrical Engineering degree or technical training
SCADA integration and RTU commissioning experience
EPC project commissioning support
Experience leading crews or managing field projects
Utility or renewable energy experience
