Position Summary:
The Welding Apprentice will work under the guidance of master welders and supervisors to learn welding techniques used in the manufacturing of metal products and components. This is a hands-on training role designed to prepare individuals for a full-time welding position within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of welding equipment used in manufacturing processes.
- Observe and learn various welding methods including MIG, TIG, and stick welding as used in production.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to assist with accurate fabrication.
- Participate in the fabrication and assembly of steel or aluminum parts used in production lines.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Measure, mark, and prepare materials according to production specifications.
- Perform basic welding tasks under supervision and improve welding proficiency through practice and mentorship.
- Assist with inspecting and testing welds to ensure they meet company and quality standards.
- Maintain clean workstations and properly store tools and materials at the end of each shift.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure production goals are met.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Enrollment in or completion of a welding certification program preferred.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing and metalworking processes.
- Willingness to learn and grow within the trade.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding role that includes standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and dependability.
- Team-oriented with good communication and time management skills.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing plant setting with exposure to loud noise, heavy machinery, and fluctuating temperatures.
- Use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, helmet, and steel-toed boots required.
Growth Opportunities:
This role is designed to prepare candidates for advancement into positions such as Welder I, Fabricator, or Welding Technician within the manufacturing department.
