Job Description Summary:
Salary: $25.06 - $37.60 per hour
This position involves assisting in planning and coordination of new and expanding Recreation projects, programs, and facilities as outlined by the Recreation Master Plan. The Recreation Planning Assistant will work closely with Recreation and Operations staff to oversee TRWD-owned properties that are used for recreational purposes. The position will also have the opportunity to engage and network with other departments such as environmental and conservation, events, communications, physical security, and operations to participate in establishing a coordinated effort to support the overall goals of TRWD.
Job Description
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

- Ability to review and evaluate construction designs and drawings
- Updates communications team to provide information about recreation regulations, opportunities, and current restrictions
- Assists in the long-range planning for the Department including the development of grant proposals, interlocal agreements, and special projects
- Assists in furthering Recreation department projects which may include research, design, management, and monitoring, to meet department goals and resolve problems
- Assist Landscape Architect Manager with TRWD recreation asset / inventory management and conditions assessment
- Use of GIS software and applications including Field Maps
- Develop relationships with TRWD departments to promote cooperation, efficiency, and effectiveness to with Operations to support TRWD recreation projects
- Aids in reaching goals and work plans for the recreation department
- Maintain familiarity with strategic district levels of service
- Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
- Perform other duties as required
Required Experience:
- Prior proven experience reviewing construction plans whether in a school or professional setting
- Less than six (6) months of related experience
- Able to be both self-directed/work alone and be contributing member of a group
- Able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
- Able to work some evenings and weekends
Desired Experience:
- Basic knowledge of trails maintenance and construction methods
- Basic knowledge of recreation programming and activities
- Ability to meet and exceed District and staff goals
- Experience or willingness to learn GIS, Field Maps, or similar programs
- Deep interest in outdoor recreational pursuits and being a productive part of a team
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Must have good oral communication skills
- Able to generate collaborative teams and effective working relationships with peer employees and departments
- Experience using Microsoft Office
Required Education/Certification/License:
- Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a bachelor’s degree and/or have relevant experience in construction or project management, landscape architecture, outdoor recreation, recreation management, natural resource management, parks and recreation, park planning, recreation administration, leisure administration, or related field
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Knowledge of/or experience with irrigation systems, rules, and regulations
- Valid Texas driver’s license
