What are the responsibilities and job description for the LIFEGUARD (TEMP) - Resource Connection position at Tarrant County?
The Aquatic Center at the Resource Connection is a year-round shallow water, heated facility used for recreational and lap swimming, therapeutic exercise, as well as learn to swim programs. Aquatic Center Lifeguards are employed to supervise the aquatic area during all facility activities, thus ensuring participant safety and an optimal aquatic experience. Lifeguards are also responsible for monitoring water chemistry and providing administrative customer service to make for a well-rounded aquatic staff member. The Part-Time Aquatic Center Lifeguard can expect a work week of 16 to 28 hours.

- Monitors patrons of the Aquatics Center. Is knowledgeable of and enforces all pool rules and curtails any misuse of the facility by members or inappropriate actions. Provides any and all rescues and provides first aid if necessary. Prevents, reports, and documents any and all incidents within the facility.
- Works closely with special group organizations and adheres to rental rules and policies. Maintains sectioning of the pool for water exercise classes as well as learn to swim programming. Ensures the proper ratio of patrons to lifeguards, which is 20:1, and documents bather load for the facility every half hour.
- Tests and maintains proper water chemistry. Adds chemicals when necessary, checks water temperature throughout the shift, and maintains proper documents and logs. Reports any malfunctioning equipment immediately to Aquatic Supervisor. Adjusts and maintains facility temperature, ventilation, and climate via fans, windows, and heaters for patron and staff comfort.
- Enforces the facility reservation schedule and reservation protocol to ensure the facility runs fairly and efficiently. Provides regular customer service to patrons including facility tours, membership information and documents, and facility badge processing as well as conflict and complaint resolution if necessary.
- Clears, secures, and locks pool area at closing. Keeps pool area locked when not in use and after normal operating hours. Checks pool and safety equipment to ensure it is in its proper place and is in good working order. Assists in proper maintenance and sanitary upkeep of lifeguard office, pool and pool area, and locker rooms.
- Attends inservices as scheduled and successfully meets all physical requirements per certifying agency and State requirements. Maintains knowledge of Resource Connection Aquatic Center policies and safety procedures acquired through on the job training.
- Performs all other related duties as required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have high school diploma or GED.
Current certification in Deep Water or Shallow Water Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
Incumbent must hold a current and valid driver license or state-issued ID card.
One (1) full time year of lifeguarding experience preferred.
Experience teaching water exercise classes preferred.
Knowledge of water chemistry, chemicals, and processes preferred.
The selected candidate(s) for this position must take and pass a pre-placement physical examination.
If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing.
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to tolerate indoor hot temperatures, bend, carry up to 50lbs, climb ladders, climb stairs, grasp/squeeze, use hand tools, hear, keyboard, kneel, lift below the waist, lift between waist and shoulder, lift overhead, lift to the side/twist, use material handling equipment, tolerate noise, pull, push, reach, reach overhead, perform repetitive tasks, see color, see far and near, sit, negotiate slippery surfaces, squat, stand, talk, twist, use his/her hands, walk, swim, perform CPR/AED, and work alone and with others.
