The Chief Estimator will oversee all estimating processes, establish standardized estimating procedures, coordinate with internal teams, and ensure competitive, accurate, and timely bids. This role works closely with the Vice President of Estimating and collaborates across multiple departments to support successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage the weekly bid calendar; evaluate bid invitations with leadership.
- Lead weekly estimating meetings and ensure timely completion of all estimates.
- Assign responsibilities and provide direction to the estimating team.
- Review project plans, specifications, and documents to verify complete scope coverage.
- Identify project risks and evaluate their potential impact.
- Oversee subcontractor and supplier outreach, pricing, and scope reviews.
- Manage bid instructions, bid forms, and other required solicitation materials.
- Ensure project information is organized, distributed, and properly documented.
- Coordinate insurance requirements and verify compliance for bids.
- Work with the Marketing Department on technical proposal requirements.
- Participate in project handoff meetings for awarded jobs.
- Conduct periodic project site visits and participate in review meetings as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- 10 years of estimating experience in HVAC and/or plumbing construction.
- Strong proficiency with estimating software, especially Quick Pen.
- Deep understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in high-pressure situations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies quickly.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong work ethic and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
