Commercial Systems Engineer

Position Summary

The Commercial Systems Engineer is responsible for the deployment, support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of commercial and production systems across global operations. This role requires strong expertise in Linux systems administration, Azure IoT technologies, networking, cybersecurity, infrastructure automation, and global production support. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable systems supporting manufacturing, IoT devices, cloud services, and business operations worldwide.

Key Job Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Systems Management

• Design, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux-based infrastructure, with a primary focus on Ubuntu Server environments.
• Support commercial and production systems deployed across multiple global locations.
• Perform system administration tasks including patch management, performance tuning, monitoring, and security hardening.
• Manage server lifecycle activities including provisioning, upgrades, system migrations, and decommissioning.
• Develop and maintain system documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

Azure IoT & Cloud Operations

• Support and maintain Azure IoT deployments, including Azure IoT Hub and Azure Device Provisioning Service (DPS).
• Assist with onboarding, provisioning, and lifecycle management of connected devices.
• Troubleshoot cloud connectivity, device communication, and telemetry issues.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize cloud-connected solutions and operational performance.
• Monitor cloud infrastructure and recommend improvements to scalability, security, and reliability.

Network & Security Administration

• Configure and support enterprise networking infrastructure including routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and WAN connectivity.
• Administer and troubleshoot Fortinet security solutions, including FortiGate firewalls and FortiManager.
• Implement and maintain network security controls, firewall policies, and access management procedures.
• Support cybersecurity initiatives including vulnerability remediation, compliance requirements, and system hardening.

Automation & Provisioning

• Develop and maintain infrastructure automation using SaltStack.
• Implement configuration management, software deployment, compliance monitoring, and patch automation.
• Support automated operating system deployment and server provisioning using MAAS (Metal as a Service) and related technologies.
• Continuously identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and process optimization.

Global Production Support

• Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for production systems and customer-facing infrastructure.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to critical incidents when required.
• Support manufacturing, commercial, and IoT systems to ensure high availability and minimal downtime.
• Coordinate with regional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues.
• Assist with disaster recovery planning, testing, and business continuity initiatives.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5-7 years of experience administering Linux systems, preferably Ubuntu.
• 2-3 years of experience with Azure IoT services, including Azure IoT Hub and Azure DPS.
• 3 years of experience supporting enterprise networking environments.
• Experience supporting globally distributed production systems.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools.

Working Conditions 

Work is performed inside a flex space building consisting of offices, open desk space, laboratory, machine shop, and a manufacturing floor. Level of noise is usually quiet in the office environment and temperature controlled.
