The Athletic Trainer provides care to both healthy athletes and those who have impairments, functional limitations, or changes in physical function and health status as a result of injury, illness, or other causes. The Athletic Trainer works with occasional guidance by collaborating with the health care team using modalities, personnel, equipment and supply resources. The Athletic Trainer works in prevention of injury and illness, identification and evaluation of injury, referral and teaming coordination with appropriate healthcare team members and settings, as well as rehabilitation recovery of the injured or ill athlete. The Athletic Trainer is consistently communicative with other members of the health care team, coaches, strength and conditioning staff, parents, and athletes regarding injury illness prevention and management.

Comprehensive knowledge of Athletic Training practice, NATA position statements, emergency management.

 

NOTE: BLS within 30 days.

 

One year of related experience preferred.

Functions

Area of Responsibilities

Supports the full range of athletic programs at school by providing comprehensive athletic healthcare, including preventative efforts, injury evaluation and assessment, injury treatment, and rehabilitation.

 

Collaborates with the healthcare team in establishing athletic training and sports medicine services plan of care.

 

Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the athlete's care and management to determine functional capabilities within defined activity levels.

 

Maintains patient records to include all required documentation, legibly written and completed within assigned time frames.

 

Coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating care needs across the continuum.

 

Continually utilizes athletic training skills and resources to reevaluate functional capabilities towards optimal, safe participation, and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.

 

Coordinates referrals to other medical services as indicated.

 

Uses current best practices for concussion evaluation.

 

Maintains confidentiality.

 

Practices good communication skills with patient and family members. Recognizes potential problems or request of patients and or family and reacts appropriately.

 

Practices based on current best practices via the NATA position statements, evidence-base, and physician direction.

 

Participates in in-service educational programs.

 

Employs strategies to promote a safe and healthy environment for athletes.

 

Demonstrates dependability on the job. Reports to work on time. Notifies supervisor of unscheduled absences as soon as possible. Organizes work schedule effectively.

 

Complies with standards set forth by TJC and other regulating agencies, as well as Tanner policies.

 

Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities as requested.

 

Performs other activities as assigned.

 

Demonstrates competency in patient care according to the age of the patient and population served. a. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient's needs. b. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development. c. Demonstrates understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients (age and diagnosis).

 

Utilizes strong organizational and time management skills needed to balance assigned athletic activities and documentation of all visits.

 

Provides medical emergency coverage to injured student athletes at practices and athletics events as needed. Administers first aid until appropriate medical assistance can be obtained

 

Interfaces with various internal and external personnel for referral purposes and information exchange.

 

 

Compliance Statement

Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.
