Position Summary
The Cook prepares food according to recipes and plans cooking schedules to meet mealtime schedules. The Cook directs other food service employees in the absence of the Food Service Director and the Assistant Food Service Director. The Cook performs related duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve therapeutic items in accordance with standardized menus, diet orders, portion control procedures, on a timely basis within financial parameters.
- Assist in establishing food service production line to ensure that meals are prepared on time and presented appropriately.
- Inspect food storage, utility and chemical supply areas for inventory control and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in facility inspections from authorized governing agencies.
- Coordinate dietary services and activities with other related departments.
- Supervise dietary staff in the absence of the weekend supervisor, the assistant director, or the director of Food Service.
- Attend all required in-service training programs and departmental meetings.
- Report attendance issues (absenteeism and tardiness) and grievances to the director.
- Report all occupational infectious control and sanitation issues to the director.
- Conduct daily inspections of assigned work areas to assure appropriate sanitation practices.
- Participate in orientation of new personnel.
- Performs all other duties as requested.
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Flexibility to work all shifts including weekend.
- Speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job.
- Foster effective working relationships and build consensus.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Basic computer knowledge to document essential functions of the position.
Educational, Licensure and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- 1 year of dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility or other related medical facility, preferred.
- Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, squat and bend.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light to moderate weights, up to 30 pounds.
