About the Role

The Clinical Supervisor provides oversight, leadership, and direction to the clinical staff. You’ll be the person who ensures our care meets the highest clinical and regulatory standards. You will accomplish this by: assisting with developing policy, supervising clinicians, leading investigations and risk management, and safeguarding the quality of every service and every record. 

You will provide Clinical Supervision for counselors, peers, case managers,  assessment specialists and the Utilization Review Specialist . This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who leads from the front — in the chart, in the room, and on the floor.

    What You’ll Do

    Clinical Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide oversight, leadership, and direction to Tandem’s clinical staff.
  • Provide administrative and clinical supervision to the Clinical Supervisor Assistant.
  • Provide direct clinical supervision to counselors, peers, case managers, assessment specialists, and utilization review specialist. 

    Referral & Intake Coordination

  • Conduct screenings, admissions, referrals, and assessments as needed. Additionally, provide consistent follow up that these items are being done within compliance deadlines.
  • Oversee client intake and orientation processes as needed.

    Authorizations

  • Complete and/or oversee Initial Authorization requests to initiate services.
  • Complete and/or oversee Continued Stay requests as clinically appropriate.
  • Participate in Peer-to-Peer Reviews.

 

Documentation & Records

  • Submit and/or approve all clinical documentation to include progress notes, treatment plans, quarterly reports, and assessments, within 24 hours per Virginia Medicaid guidelines.
  • Approve and monitor Client Service Plans; develop and update Individualized Service Plans (ISPs).
  • Ensure timely completion of discharge summaries and write annual and quarterly reports.

Operations, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with Medicaid, DBHDS, and internal policies.
  • Initiate, conduct, assign, and follow up on all investigations of client abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation.
  • Follow procedures for grievances/complaints and abuse/neglect/exploitation reporting.

Program & Client Support

  • Perform shift work during staffing shortages, such as case management, administrative, and group coverage.
  • Participate in on call-when not on scheduled time off
  • Initiate client de-escalation and behavior modification plans as needed.

Pay:

  • Starting Salary will be determined by experience and licensure status.
  • Supervisees in Social Work and Residents in Counseling are encouraged to apply, if they are at least half-way through their supervision hours.
  • Pay Range: $62,000-$75,000 with yearly annual performance raises. 
Qualifications:

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment.
  • Working knowledge of Virginia Medicaid guidelines, DBHDS regulations, and clinical documentation standards.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Behavior Modification certifications (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with a current, acceptable DMV driving record.

Strongly Preferred

  • Full licensure or license-eligible (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent).
  • Supervisory or team-lead experience.

Salary : $62,000 - $75,000
