Job Summary:** The Anesthesiologist is a primary provider of anesthesia care, working in collaboration with surgeons and CRNAs to deliver anesthesia and sedation for surgical procedures. In addition, they must ensure that pre-anesthetic and post-anesthetic evaluations are complete and any abnormalities are reported to the surgeon. The Anesthesiologist is also responsible for maintaining a safe environment with appropriate equipment, medication and processes to ensure the highest quality in the delivery of patient care. Physician will administer sedation, general anesthesia and regional blocks in an ASC setting for a variety of surgical procedures, including but not limited to General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynecology, ENT, Podiatry, Urology, Dentistry, and Ophthalmology. Job duties will be located in the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) associated with the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center operated by the Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) - a consortium of Interior Alaska Native tribes.

Representative Duties:** Under the direct supervision of Specialty Services Medical Director, the Anesthesiologist will:
Perform the pre-anesthesia evaluation.
Order appropriate pre-anesthetic medications.
Plan the anesthetic management, including the selection of the anesthetic agent and techniques.
Be available for consultation by surgical staff regarding patient care.
Consult with and supervise Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) regarding patient care and departmental policies and procedures.
Document discussion of the anesthesia plan and risks with the patients.
Administer anesthesia for any surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures performed.
Provide airway management.
Place and manage regional anesthetic blocks.
Maintain anesthesia at the required levels throughout the procedure.
Ensure all emergency equipment is in proper working order.
Utilize appropriate monitoring equipment.
Recognize and take corrective action for abnormal patient responses to the anesthetic agents or any adjunctive medication or other therapy.
Provide professional observations and resuscitative care until the patient has regained control of their vital functions, including the ordering of medications necessary in the recovery period.
Perform the post-anesthetic evaluation and consult with the surgeon concerning any abnormal conditions discovered during the pre-anesthetic evaluation, and any abnormal patient conditions arising during the anesthetic or during the recovery period.
Obtain awareness and ensure compliance with all IHS and AAAHC standards associated with the provision of anesthesia services.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school with an MD or DO, as well as successful completion of a residency in Anesthesiology.
Anesthesiologist will maintain appropriate Board certification with the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Participation in a program of maintenance of certification.
Must be able to meet all guidelines necessary to become credentialed and privileged as a member of the TCC Clinical Staff.
Anesthesiologist shall be currently licensed (or qualified to pursue licensure) as a physician in the state of Alaska.
Knowledge of a range of surgical procedures to be able to anticipate the needs of the surgeon including safe positioning of patients.
Ability to provide general and regional anesthesia as well as surgical nerve blocks.
Demonst ation of recent relevant experience.
Acceptable malpractice history.
Current ACLS and PALS certification.
Current DEA registration certificate for prescribing authority.
Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

Supervision:** The position includes collaborative and supervisory responsibilities with regards to staff CRNAs. In addition, one of the Anesthesiologists will serve as Anesthesia Section Lead, and will have additional responsibilities including supervision of other anesthesiologists, creation of and adherence to departmental policies and procedures, service on appropriate committees and participation in quality control processes.
