Job TitleStudent Fitness Instructor (Recs- Fitness & Trainer) Agency Texas A&M International University Department Recreational Sports Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationLaredo, Texas Job TypeStudent Worker Job Description Job Summary The Student Fitness Instructor is responsible for assisting Recreational Sports Fitness staff with providing a safe, healthy, and positive environment for fitness class participants. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for assisting Recreational Sports Staff with providing a safe, healthy, and positive environment for fitness class participants. Implement procedures for fitness programming, which includes but not limited to, emergency protocols. Prepare and implement proper choreography to include regressions and progressions for all fitness levels for assigned fitness classes. Assist the Program Manager of Strength & Fitness of Rec Sports activities. Support Rec Sports operations by assisting in day-to-day functions such as taking inventory, cleaning fitness studies, storage, and maintaining fitness equipment. Mentor and guide new instructors to ensure existing fitness guidelines and procedures are being communicated. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates. Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students. Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP). Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of: Skills to align the use of various fitness equipment. Safe exercise techniques and principles. Excellent customer service skills. Implementation of University policies KWRC Fitness guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment for fitness class participation. Ability to: Ensure participants are executing proper form and encouraging safety. Plan and conduct classes independently. Recruit and retain fitness class participants. Communicate effectively with a population and provide modifications for various fitness levels. Maintain a positive work including punctuality, professional dress, behavior, and attitude. Assist and mentor fitness staff. Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses Must obtain CPR/AED certification within 60 days of employment. Other Requirements Must attend Fitness Instructors in Training class. Position may require moving and lifting objects and materials as necessary. Position may also require various exercise movements including jumping, squatting, lifting weight equipment, etc. Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions. Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule. Promptly complete all required training. Submit time sheet biweekly. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Subject to funding and/or need. Pay of Rate: $9.00/hour for up to 19 hours weekly All positions are security-sensitive. To be eligible for Student Employment: Undergraduate Students · Undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester of college-level courses or accepted remedial courses. · International undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours to meet the federal immigration guidelines. · Must maintain a 2.0 TAMIU overall GPA. Graduate Students: · Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours per semester. · International graduate students must enroll in 9 semester credit hours in order to meet the federal immigration guidelines. · Must maintain a 3.0 TAMIU overall GPA. Students who will be graduating may enroll for less than half time for their final semester. Must submit proof of graduation. Federal and State Work Study positions It may also be advantageous for you to apply for financial aid to assist you with meeting your educational goals. This may also include being eligible for the Federal Work Study and State Work Study programs.
