Job TitleEnvironmental Health and Safety Specialist I Agency Texas A&M University Department Environmental Health & Safety Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationCollege Station, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description A Glimpse of the Job The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist I, under general supervision, provides specialized knowledge in the operation and support of assigned area within an environmental health and safety program. Essential Duties Investigations and Assessments Performs oversight for TAMU’s environmental compliance with Clean Air Act (CAA) Provides verbal and written interpretations of Federal, State, and Local environmental laws, regulations, programs, and agreements to faculty, staff, and students Assistance includes compliance recommendations and explanations of program procedures and regulatory explanation to faculty, staff, students, and contractors on behalf of Environmental Health and Safety Conducts air audits and visible emission checks as needed Environmental Programs Assists with oversight for TAMU's environmental compliance with Clean Water Act (CWA), and Clean Air Act (CAA) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Assists in developing plans and implements programs and training that ensure compliance with Federal and State regulatory requirements Submits or assists in preparing appropriate reports, permit applications, and/or inspection results as required by the regulations Training & Development Prepares and conducts monthly emergency response trainings Conducts training and/or develops training aids in specialized area Participates in training and development opportunities Record Keeping Prepares annual air reports and permitting Emergency Response Responds with other EHS personnel to chemical spills or hazardous waste emergencies with university spill vehicle Assists with maintaining equipment involved in emergency response What You Need to Know Salary: $21.73/hour Cover Letter/Resume: A cover letter and resume will assist us in our review of your application materials. Required Education and Experience Associate degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience Two years of experience in an environmental health and safety or related field Preferred Qualifications Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training Training or experience related to Clean Air Act, Air Quality and Monitoring, and/or Texas Air Permitting Visible Emissions Reader Certificate May require a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of environmental, safety, and health rules, regulations, and standards Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others Other Requirements and Factors Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system This position is security sensitive This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements Instructions to Applicants: Applications received by Texas A&M University must either have all job application data entered or a resume attached.
