These positions are responsible for enforcing parking regulations by giving warnings and issuing parking citations. Duties often require performing traffic control on campus. Employees in this position must have strong customer service skills due to providing public assistance to University employees, students, and visitors. What You Need to Know Parking Services Officer I – Days: Starting Salary: $15.85/hour Work Hours: Monday – Friday from 6:00am – 2:30pm (subject to change in support of events on campus) Parking Services Officer I – Nights: Starting Salary: $16.64/hour Work Hours: Monday – Friday from 2:00pm – 10:30pm (subject to change in support of events on campus) Qualifications Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years full-time work experience. Required Licenses and Certifications: Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license within 30 days of employment. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Customer relations skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to work periodic rotating shifts. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Ability to operate and comprehend technical aspects of electronic data terminals and ticket writers, telephone systems, video monitors, computer systems and electronic and mechanical systems required for booth operations. Must be able to use all of the following mobility devices with training; mobility devices used include walking, bicycle, scooter, and/or car/truck. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and/or move heavy weight objects. May be required to stand/traverse for extended periods of time (hours may increase depending on Special Events). Performs such tactile activities as key punch, grasping, holding, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing for extended periods of time, traversing, and repetitive tasks, such as arm movements required for traffic direction. Other Requirements and Factors Individuals in this position are frequently required to work hours outside of their regular work shift to support special events and other campus activities. Employees will be expected to work their regularly scheduled shifts as well as scheduled special events, which will require employees to have scheduled overtime. This will require the ability to work nights, holidays and weekends as scheduled. Required to participate in field training program to upgrade skills and will be expected to perform senior officer duties as part of training status. Exposure to vehicle movement hazards if proper safety procedures are not followed. PSO I – Nights: Due to less managerial oversight during non-business hours, may be required to make decision and apply discretion on enforcement issues more frequently than similar positions during business hours, may be required to use more customer relations skills to de-escalate contacts with customers, and may be required to provide more detailed information and directions due to limited availability of other customer resources during these duty hours.
