Job TitleFire and Life Safety Equipment Specialist I Agency Texas A&M University Department Environmental Health & Safety Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationCollege Station, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description A Glimpse of the Job The Fire and Life Safety Equipment Specialist I, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting inspections, data collection, documenting findings and scheduling inspections of one or more fire and life safety systems or equipment types, including, but not limited to fire extinguishers and fire hydrants. Essential Duties Fire and Life Safety System Inspection and Maintenance Performs inspections for one or more fire and life safety systems or equipment types Schedules inspections of fire and life safety systems or equipment Documents flow test of campus fire hydrants and updates databases as appropriate Provides current flow test data/conducts new flow test as needed for new construction/renovation projects Assists construction groups with relevant data Inventory Management and Documentation Inventories new fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, and updates databases as appropriate Conducts inventory and barcoding of newly installed doors, shutters, curtains, etc Utilizes equipment to conduct hydrostatic testing of portable fire extinguishers Assistance, Events & Emergency Response Assists superiors as needed Collaborates with other personnel in preparation of and during special events that have a need for Fire and Life Safety input Responds with other personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders What You Need to Know Salary: $21.96/hour Cover Letter/Resume: A cover letter and resume will assist us in our review of your application materials. Required Education and Experience Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Two years of experience in fire and life safety or a related field Required Licenses and Certifications Must have DOT security training or ability to take training with 60 days; Texas Drivers License or ability to acquire within 60 days Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of inspection, testing and maintenance of fire extinguishers and fire hydrants Must be able to operate hand tools; ability to operate hydrostatic testing equipment Preferred Qualifications Fire Inspector certification Certified/licensed fire extinguisher technician; other fire system certifications Machines or equipment used in the performance of essential duties Fire Extinguisher Hydrostatic test equipment Fire Hydrant flow test equipment Computer Hand Tools Physical Requirements Must be able to lift, carry, and climb stairs/ladders while carrying moderate to heavy weighing objects Have the ability to work in cold and hot conditions; ability to work in dusty environment Other Requirements and Factors Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system This position is security sensitive This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements Instructions to Applicants: Applications received by Texas A&M University must either have all job application data entered or a resume attached.
