The ideal candidate is a strong writer and storyteller with an eye for visual and digital media, comfortable managing multiple projects, and eager to grow their skills in video, social media, and public outreach. They are organized, proactive, and responsive, with a commitment to serving coastal communities and advancing Texas Sea Grant’s mission through strategic, audience-focused communication. Other Requirements and Factors: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. This position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance. This position may require up to 10% or more travel. This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Essential Duties/Tasks Content Creation and Design Assists in creating, editing, designing, and producing various communication materials such as brochures, advertisements, flyers, infographics, newsletters, speeches, and reports. Collaborates on drafting news releases and supports their distribution. Assists in designing graphic communications pieces within brand guidelines, contributing ideas and executing under guidance. Supports the development and refinement of templates for digital communications including social media, emails, and websites. Helps in managing and organizing digital asset libraries. Digital Media Management Contributes to digital media strategy, including video and photography content creation, editing, and publishing across platforms. Produces and directs video projects from concept through final delivery, including scripting, filming, and post-production. Captures high-quality photo and video assets to support organizational storytelling, outreach, and marketing efforts. Oversees content distribution. Writing and Editing, Publication Management Writes content for annual reports, brochures, flyers, news releases, technical papers, proceedings, newsletters, posters, presentations, and web. Manages publication submission during reporting periods. Website Management Upload press releases, news items, staff bios, events, home page news, banner announcements, and other information to website. Regularly monitor site for broken links or outdated information. Monitor program account inbox of messages initiated from form on website and respond to publications requests or route as necessary. Outreach Support Assists with media and partner interviews, advertising, promotional activities, and supports special events and conferences. Some weekday, weekend, and overnight travel expected. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. No prior experience required. Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva) for creating brochures, reports, and promotional materials. Experience developing visual and written content for both print and digital platforms. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail and brand consistency. Familiarity with video production, including filming, editing, and scriptwriting (experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools). Comfortable conducting interviews and gathering stories from a variety of audiences, including scientists, partners, and community members. Ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, engaging content for public audiences. Experience working events, including staffing informational tables and engaging with the public. Willingness and ability to travel along the Texas coast, including occasional overnight trips. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Familiarity with coastal, marine, or environmental topics is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong written and oral communications skills. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects. Ability to work professionally and harmoniously in a service-oriented position. Self-motivation and ability to manage time efficiently, as well as make quick decisions, with minimal supervision. Critical thinking skills. Ability to collaborate successfully with internal and external teams. Proficiency/mastery with social media channels and emerging social media trends.
