Talon Hiring Solutions has a client in the Greater Birmingham, AL area that is looking for a hands-on Mechanical Technician to support the build, maintenance, and installation of mechanical systems used in automation and industrial environments. This role is critical to ensuring equipment reliability, quality, and on-time project delivery. You’ll work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to bring complex systems to life.
What You’ll Do
Assembly & Build
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics
- Assemble subassemblies and complex systems to precise specifications
- Use hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches)
- Ensure proper alignment, fit, and torque per engineering standards
Maintenance & Repair
- Perform preventive maintenance and equipment inspections
- Diagnose mechanical issues and execute timely repairs
- Replace and service components such as bearings, gears, belts, valves, and seals
- Track maintenance activities and identify recurring issues
Installation & Commissioning
- Assist with equipment installation in-house and at customer sites
- Perform system alignment using tools such as dial indicators or laser systems
- Support startup, testing, and final system validation
- Collaborate with engineering, electrical, and controls teams during commissioning
Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
- Identify root causes of failures and recommend improvements
- Support prototype builds and provide feedback on design and assembly
- Participate in testing and optimization of new equipment
Documentation & Safety
- Maintain accurate records of assembly, maintenance, and repairs
- Follow OSHA and company safety standards at all times
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and audit-ready
What We’re Looking For
- Associate’s degree in Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field (preferred)
- 2 years of hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, maintenance, or industrial equipment
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with tools, fasteners, and fabrication practices
- Basic knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and power transmission
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities
- Able to work independently and in team environments
- Comfortable in fast-paced, project-driven settings
