What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher and Customer Service Representative position at Tally's Towing & Recovery?
We are seeking a reliable, sharp, and calm-under-pressure Dispatcher to join our 24/7 towing and roadside assistance team. As the central heartbeat of our operations, you will be responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls from stranded motorists, auto clubs, and law enforcement. You will efficiently coordinate our fleet of tow trucks to ensure quick, safe, and professional service.
Because we operate around the clock, this position requires a flexible team player willing to cover multiple shifts to reach a guaranteed 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Call Handling: Answer incoming calls from customers, motor clubs (AAA, etc.), and law enforcement with empathy, professionalism, and speed.
- Route Optimization & Dispatching: Assess the customer's situation, determine the correct equipment needed (flatbed, wrecker, service truck), and dispatch the nearest available driver using our GPS tracking and dispatch software.
- Driver Coordination: Maintain constant communication with drivers to monitor their progress, provide accurate directions, and assist with any logistical issues on the road.
- Customer Updates: Provide customers with realistic Etas, pricing transparency, and reassurance during stressful situations.
- Data Entry: Accurately log vehicle information, location details, billing information, and call notes into the dispatch system.
- Problem Solving: Efficiently handle scheduling conflicts, high call volumes, or shifting priorities during peak traffic hours or inclement weather.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 1–2 years of dispatching experience (Towing, logistics, EMS, or delivery fleet dispatching is highly preferred, but we will train the right candidate).
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication and an ability to remain calm and authoritative in high-stress situations.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficient with computers, mapping software (Google Maps/Waze), and the ability to quickly learn proprietary dispatching software.
- Geographical Knowledge: Strong familiarity with the local roads, highways, and surrounding traffic patterns.
- Multi-tasking Master: Proven ability to type quickly, listen attentively, and make fast logistics decisions simultaneously.
- Background Check: Must be able to pass a standard criminal background check.
Shift Flexibility Note: Because emergencies don't keep a 9-to-5 schedule, the ideal candidate must be open to working a rotating or multi-shift schedule that may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
