Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Horizontal Drill Operator to join our team. The operator will be responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install underground pipes, conduits, and cables in accordance with project specifications and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate HDD equipment (e.g., Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or other drill rigs) to bore and install underground utilities.
- Read and interpret job plans, blueprints, and locate information to determine the best drill path.
- Conduct pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on drilling equipment.
- Monitor drill progress, make necessary adjustments, and ensure bore path accuracy.
- Collaborate with ground crew and locator to ensure safe and effective operations.
- Identify and avoid existing utilities and underground obstructions.
- Complete job documentation including bore logs, time sheets, and safety reports.
- Adhere to OSHA and company-specific safety regulations and best practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience operating horizontal directional drills.
- Familiarity with underground utility installation (fiber, gas, water, electric, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret utility locates and blueprints.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- CDL Class A or B preferred (may be required for transporting equipment).
- Must be able to pass drug screening and background check.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Physical labor including lifting (50 lbs), bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Travel to different job sites as needed.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with tracking systems (e.g., DigiTrak, Subsite).
- Knowledge of soil types and drilling fluid mixtures.
- Trenchless construction or fiber optic cable installation experience

Pay: $28.00 - $40.00 per hour
