Air Quality Specialist / Senior Air Quality Specialist

Houston, TX (Hybrid)

Compensation: $150-180K stock options


A large upstream oil & gas operator is seeking an Air Quality Specialist to join its environmental team. This is a unique opportunity to step into a senior role within a public organization that continues to expand assets through strategic acquisitions and operational growth.


This position is ideal for an experienced air quality professional who wants to shape environmental strategy, supporting operational teams, and helping build the future of an expanding air quality program.


The role is on-site on Houston (hybrid) and features WFH half day Fridays.

Responsibilities

  • Manage air permitting and compliance programs (Title V, AO, PBR, Standard Permits) for upstream oil & gas facilities.
  • Prepare permit applications, applicability analyses, emissions calculations, notifications, deviation reports, and regulatory submissions.
  • Develop emissions inventories and calculations for VOCs, HAPs, methane, and GHGs using AP-42, ProMax, and EPA methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with NSPS OOOOa, OOOOb, and OOOOc, including recordkeeping, reporting, and fugitive emissions requirements.
  • Support Title V permitting, permit modifications, emissions tracking, monitoring programs, and control technology evaluations.
  • Lead emissions reduction initiatives focused on methane management, LDAR/OGI programs, VOC reduction, and sustainability goals.
  • Manage GHG reporting (Subpart W), emissions inventories, and environmental performance tracking.
  • Conduct compliance audits, field inspections, and equipment inventories.
  • Partner with operations and engineering teams on facility modifications, expansions, and new development projects.
  • Monitor regulatory developments, including methane regulations, non-attainment requirements, and state/federal rule changes.
  • Support ESG reporting, emissions data management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor junior team members and serve as a technical resource for air quality and compliance matters.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of air permitting, emissions calculations, and environmental compliance programs
  • Experience with federal and state air regulations applicable to oil & gas facilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with operations, engineering, and leadership teams
  • Strong communication, project management, and problem-solving skills


Preferred

  • Experience working directly for an oil & gas operator
  • Familiarity with Title V permitting, GHG reporting, and emissions reduction initiatives
  • Experience supporting multi-state operations and complex regulatory programs

Salary : $150,000 - $180,000
