Job Description:

The Corporate Environmental Manager supports environmental compliance, sustainability, and risk‑management programs within a plastics refinery. This includes ensuring regulatory compliance, monitoring emissions from polymer and monomer production units, managing waste streams, supporting permitting requirements, and driving initiatives that reduce environmental impact across resin, polymer, and feedstock processing operations.

Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, OSHA, and plastics-industry‑specific chemical regulations such as TSCA for monomers and additives).

Prepare, maintain, and submit environmental permits (e.g., air, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste).

Coordinate regulatory inspections, audits, and corrective actions.

Air Quality & Emissions Control:

Monitor emissions from ethylene crackers, polymerization reactors, pelletizers, flares, boilers, and storage tanks.

Manage LDAR programs for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particularly monomers like ethylene, propylene, styrene, vinyl chloride, or other refinery‑specific feedstocks.

Support CEMS, flare monitoring, and stack testing activities.

Waste & Wastewater Management:

Oversee wastewater systems handling process water, cooling tower blowdown, and resin-washing effluents.

Manage polymer waste, off-spec resin disposal, catalyst waste, contaminated solvents, and hazardous materials.

Ensure compliance with wastewater discharge permits and stormwater pollution prevention plans.

Chemical & Plastics-Specific Compliance:

Evaluate environmental risks associated with additives such as plasticizers, stabilizers, flame retardants, and colorants.

Manage environmental controls for microplastics (e.g., pellet loss prevention, containment systems, Operation Clean Sweep compliance).

Support material safety reviews and chemical approval processes.

Environmental Monitoring & Data Management:

Conduct routine inspections, sampling, and environmental monitoring programs.

Maintain environmental databases, emissions, logs, and compliance tracking systems.

Prepare monthly/quarterly environmental KPIs for management.

Sustainability & Continuous Improvement:

Support energy efficiency projects, waste reduction initiatives, and recycling programs.

Identify opportunities for reduced emissions, lower environmental footprint, and improved environmental technologies.

Contribute to circular plastics and sustainability initiatives.

Emergency Response & Risk Management:

Participate in incident response, spill management, and refinery hazard assessments.

Provide environmental guidance for abnormal operations, releases, and process upsets.

Lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions for environmental incidents.

Project Engineering & Process Support:

Provide environmental input for project designs, equipment modifications, and MOC (Management of Change) reviews.

Evaluate process modifications for environmental impacts—especially in cracking, polymerization, pelletizing, or compounding units.

Training & Communication:

Deliver environmental compliance training to operators, maintenance, and engineering teams.

Serve as the primary environmental contact for operations and management.

Skills/Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

Professional Engineer (PE) certification, or CHMM certification preferred
