Position Summary
Client is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to support our growing portfolio of transportation engineering and consulting projects. This role will partner closely with Project Managers and Finance leadership to ensure timely project setup, accurate billing, revenue recognition, project cost tracking, and financial reporting.
The ideal candidate has experience in project-based professional services environments such as engineering, architecture, consulting, or construction, and possesses strong NetSuite experience. This position will play a critical role in improving invoice timeliness, project financial visibility, and overall project accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Financial Management
- Manage the financial lifecycle of assigned projects from setup through closeout.
- Monitor project budgets, labor utilization, contract values, and project profitability.
- Review project costs and identify discrepancies, billing issues, or budget overruns.
- Partner with Project Managers to ensure project financial performance aligns with company goals.
Billing & Revenue Recognition
- Prepare and process client invoices accurately and on schedule.
- Work directly with Project Managers to obtain billing approvals and support timely invoicing.
- Track unbilled work-in-progress (WIP) and aging receivables.
- Assist with revenue recognition in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
Project Setup & Administration
- Establish new projects within NetSuite and other project management systems.
- Maintain project records, contract information, billing terms, and project budgets.
- Support contract modifications, change orders, and project closeouts.
Financial Reporting
- Produce project financial reports and dashboards for leadership and Project Managers.
- Analyze project performance metrics, including revenue, margins, utilization, and backlog.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assist with audits and financial reviews.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as a trusted financial partner to Project Managers and Operations leaders.
- Help improve project accounting processes and billing workflows.
- Support integration of acquired companies into TMC's accounting processes and systems as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3-7 years of project accounting experience.
- Experience within engineering, architecture, consulting, or professional services organizations.
- Strong understanding of project-based accounting principles.
- Experience with NetSuite ERP.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Experience with Deltek systems.
- Experience supporting multi-office organizations.
- Experience working in acquisitive or rapidly growing companies.
Salary : $75,000 - $90,000
