About the Company
Bucketsquad is the video and ecommerce business founded and led by YouTube’s largest basketball creator Jesser (18M subscribers, 2x Streamy Sports Creator of the Year). The company operates the YouTube channels and and the sports and streetwear brand , and plans to continue expanding into other video, ecommerce and subscription and licensing businesses. In 3 years the company has grown to a team of 40 with 8-figure revenues on strong double-digit margins and 100% year on year growth. Bucketsquad is currently seeking an experienced leader to join as Head of Operations and Business, overseeing the central operations and business efforts of the company and its business units as it embarks on this next phase of growth.
About the Role
The Head of Operations and Business will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Bucketsquad’s operations and business functions – including finance and accounting, legal, HR and business operations. This is a leadership team role reporting directly to the company’s President and is also responsible for participating in and guiding the company’s strategy and planning, and incubating new businesses under the Bucketsquad and Jesser brands. This person will be a key leader for the company, responsible for the day-to-day work experience of Bucketsquad’s in-office and remote employee base, and will be a key stakeholder managing important 3rd party relationships with Bucketsquad’s agents, lawyers, HR and other business and operational partners. The right candidate should have experience successfully leading operations and business functions in a media or tech business, ideally in a startup environment. This person should have experience managing teams and/or influencing senior stakeholders, and should be familiar with the fundamentals of creator economy business and operations (i.e., revenue streams, deal terms, workflows, etc.). He or she should be a structured thinker and problem-solver, an exceptional communicator and decision-maker, and an experienced and effective people manager.
Role Responsibilities
Lead the company’s financial operations function in partnership with 3rd party accountants – i.e., payroll, taxes, financial planning, reporting, etc.
Lead the company’s people operations function – i.e., HR, compliance, policy management, on/offboarding, org design, recruiting, coaching and development
Oversee the company’s dealmaking function in partnership with 3rd party agents and lawyers – i.e., deal negotiation, contract review, commitment delivery, reporting, partner management, etc.
Partner with executive and business unit leadership to develop and guide company’s overall strategy, including strategic growth prioritization, investment decisions, new businesses incubation, etc.
Lead in-office operations – including office management, lease negotiations, insurance, culture and employee benefits/perks
Manage a small team of operations support, and hire for and manage business and operational functions that should be brought in-house
Partner with business unit leaders to drive operational efficiencies for each of Bucketsquad’s business units
Partner with President and executive leadership on business development and cultivating and closing new partnership opportunities with sports players, teams and leagues, other creators, consumer businesses, marketers, etc.
Oversee operations and management of new businesses incubated within Bucketsquad and guide hiring strategy to stand them up independently
Oversee all centralized tools and 3rd party vendors required to operate the business (i.e., Google Suite, Slack, TriNet, Box, ISPs, Utilities, etc.)
Requirements
5 years experience leading an operations, finance, business or strategy function at a media or technology company, ideally in a startup environment
A strong passion for and familiarity with the digital creator space, ideally with direct experience in YouTube video businesses and D2C creator-centric businesses
A strong analytical foundation – ideally an undergraduate business degree and/or 2 years experience in investment banking, strategy consulting or corporate finance or business ops
Experience managing people and teams, ideally with direct exposure to overseeing a people operations / HR function
Experience negotiating commercial deals with senior stakeholders, working with lawyers, redlining agreements and ensuring deal delivery
Exceptional leadership, judgment and decision-making skills, and a commitment to fairness, supporting the team, and building a healthy business culture
Exceptional prioritization and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational and communication skills
Experience using analysis to drive business and operational insights, action plans and measured outcomes, and using numbers and slides to influence business decision-making
Strong project management skills, with the ability to successfully administer multiple complex projects concurrently
Collaborative, organized, and detail-oriented
Proficiency in Google Suite, Excel, Powerpoint/Slides and other basic business software
Passion for and working understanding of the YouTube platform, including analytics, monetization and audience development strategies (Experience with and interest in creators and other social media platforms a strong plus)
