What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Quality & Compliance Engineer (Consumer Electronics / Hardware) position at Talently?
We’re partnering with a design led consumer hardware company that develops and ships products across DTC, retail, and global distribution channels. They’re hiring a Product Quality & Compliance Engineer to own product quality across the lifecycle and work closely with engineering teams and overseas manufacturing partners.
This is a highly cross-functional, hands on role where you’ll track in-market performance, dig into quality and customer data, and investigate issues to drive improvements across hardware design, manufacturing, and supplier networks, while also supporting regulatory compliance across global markets.
This is a full time, permanent position onsite in Brooklyn, NY (Dumbo). We are also open to hiring a senior engineer for this position as well.
Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve quality systems and reporting infrastructure, acting as the source of truth for product performance
- Analyze returns, field data, and failure trends to identify root causes and drive engineering priorities
- Partner with engineering and operations to resolve product issues and improve reliability
- Work directly with overseas manufacturers and suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve quality issues
- Maintain and improve quality systems and documentation in line with applicable regulatory standards
- Lead supplier quality initiatives, including performance tracking and issue resolution
- Oversee validation, reliability, and lifecycle testing programs
- Drive risk management efforts, including FMEA and related documentation
- Help define processes for how quality data is collected, analyzed, and used to drive decisions
Must-Have Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3 years of experience with quality engineering, quality systems, or regulatory engineering
- Experience in new product development within consumer electronics products or hardware
- Experience working with Asian suppliers and manufacturers in high volume production environments
- Experience with injection molded parts
- Exposure to quality systems, regulatory environments, or compliance frameworks (FDA, ISO, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with quality data analysis and tools (Excel, SQL, Tableau, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and product development lifecycles
- Ability to attend weekly evening calls with global suppliers
- Ability to translate data into actionable insights and communicate risk to cross-functional stakeholders
Nice to Have Skills:
- Solidworks CAD experience
- Experience with motors
- Experience with IPX rated products that require defense against moisture ingress
- Experience with FDA, ADA, WERC account ownership
