TalentFish is casting a line for a dependable Part-Time Field Maintenance Technician!

Are you retired, semi-retired, a handyman, landscaper, farmer, veteran, or someone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to earn extra income?

We have a unique opportunity maintaining a small, ground-level solar monitoring station in Montgomery County, NY.

No solar or electrical experience is needed! We provide training, instructions, and remote engineering support.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone local who wants consistent part-time work without committing to a traditional full-time schedule.

Position Details

• Pay: up to $40 per hour, W2
• Hours: Approximately 2–4 hours per week, including travel time
• Schedule: One visit per week, on the same agreed-upon weekday and at approximately the same time, during daylight hours
• Duration: 1–2-year contract
• Location: Rural Montgomery County, NY, near Millers Corners Road
• Training: Provided remotely by phone/video, with possible onsite training

Important: The position requires reliable weekly attendance and your own AWD or 4WD vehicle. Travel time to and from the site is included in the estimated weekly time commitment but is unpaid.

What You'll Do

• Visit a small, fenced solar monitoring station once per week.
• Clean and level scientific weather-monitoring sensors using basic hand tools.
• Wipe down one ground-mounted solar panel using water and a microfiber cloth.
• Check that equipment is secure, clean, level, and free of debris.
• Maintain grass and snow levels inside the fenced area using your own mower/trimmer and snow shovel.
• Use a provided ladder to reach instruments mounted approximately 7–8 feet high.
• Take before-and-after photos using your smartphone.
• Complete a simple weekly Excel maintenance log and upload photos and documentation to SharePoint.
• Communicate with the engineering team and follow instructions for occasional basic troubleshooting.

You will NOT be required to perform rooftop work, electrical repairs, battery maintenance, or lockout/tagout procedures. Equipment repairs are handled by qualified personnel, with remote engineering guidance provided when needed.

What We're Looking For

• Reliable AWD or 4WD vehicle — required. The site is accessed by unpaved roads.
• Preferably lives within 30–45 minutes of the Montgomery County location.
• Can commit to a consistent weekly visit for 1–2 years.
• Comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions.
• Able to walk up to approximately 1⁄4 mile each way over uneven terrain.
• Comfortable climbing and working from a 6–8-foot ladder.
• Has a smartphone, reliable internet, and basic computer skills.
• Can complete an Excel log and upload photos to SharePoint.
• Owns a mower or trimmer and snow shovel for routine vegetation and snow maintenance.
• Comfortable following instructions from an engineering team by phone or video.
• Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
