Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Security Architect to lead the design, development, and evolution of enterprise cybersecurity architecture for a large healthcare environment.
This is a senior individual contributor role at a director-equivalent level. The ideal candidate will bring deep security architecture experience, strong Azure security expertise, and the ability to partner with technical teams, clinicians, operations leaders, and business stakeholders across multiple locations.
This role will help shape enterprise security strategy, evaluate current technologies, develop future-state roadmaps, reduce organizational risk, and guide secure technology decisions across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain enterprise security architecture strategies that support business growth while balancing security, risk, cost, and operational objectives.
- Partner with security, infrastructure, enterprise architecture, application, engineering, and business teams to design secure technology solutions.
- Align cybersecurity architecture with business strategy, IT initiatives, and enterprise security goals.
- Evaluate existing systems and identify opportunities to improve security, performance, efficiency, and cost.
- Develop technology roadmaps that support long-term cybersecurity strategy.
- Research and evaluate emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and industry trends.
- Provide subject matter expertise on enterprise security architecture and participate in strategic technology planning.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical teams, business stakeholders, and executive leadership.
- Mentor junior engineers and architects while promoting security best practices.
- Travel to healthcare and corporate locations throughout the Chicagoland area as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 9 years of advanced information security engineering experience.
- 4 years of experience in a security architect role.
- 2 years leading security project delivery, including architecture, design, implementation, and vendor engagement.
- Strong enterprise security architecture experience in an Azure environment.
- Deep experience across at least three or more security domains, such as cloud security, identity, network security, application security, endpoint security, data protection, GRC, threat management, or security operations.
- Experience developing or contributing to enterprise cybersecurity strategy.
- Ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring or developing junior technical team members.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass required background checks and meet healthcare site compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare industry experience.
- Experience with HIPAA, NIST, PCI, ITIL, and Secure SDLC.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, risk management, and advanced threat landscapes.
- Experience aligning business objectives with enterprise security strategy.
- Experience securing enterprise platforms using recognized security frameworks.
- Certifications such as CISSP, CRISC, TOGAF, CCSP, SABSA, Microsoft SC-100, AWS Security, or AWS Solutions Architect.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidate will be a true enterprise security architect, not only a hands-on engineer. This person should be able to assess risk, design secure architecture, influence technology decisions, and explain security recommendations clearly to business and technical audiences.
Strong Azure depth is highly preferred. Candidates should also be comfortable working in a complex healthcare environment where they may partner with clinicians, operations teams, application owners, infrastructure teams, and security leadership.
Important Notes
- This role is hybrid and requires onsite presence 2-3 days per week.
- Candidates must live in the Chicagoland area or be able to commute reliably to multiple local sites.
- Candidates should not apply directly if they are being represented for this opportunity.
- Prior application history may need to be checked before formal submission.
Compensation
The target compensation range is $185K-$210K, depending on experience and qualifications. Candidates closer to the midpoint may be more competitive, though strong Azure security architecture experience may allow for additional flexibility.
