The Opportunity
The L&D RN provides comprehensive care to mothers and newborns throughout labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, and neonatal care. Nurses work closely with physicians, midwives, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive maternal and fetal nursing care during labor and delivery.
- Monitor vitals, fetal heart rate, and labor progression; recognize distress signals.
- Document all patient care activities accurately in electronic medical records.
- Maintain compliance with safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with obstetric team to develop and adjust birth plans.
- Administer medications and manage anesthesia- or pain-relief protocols as prescribed.
- Lead or participate in rapid-response and code events with clinical leadership.
- Excel in a results-driven environment with measurable targets and clear pipelines.
- Educate patients and families on labor expectations, procedures, and postpartum care.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing performance insights and outcomes.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to onboarding and professional development.
- Ensure accurate charge capture and documentation for billing and administrative purposes.
- Active RN license with obstetric/gynecology experience in labor and delivery
- Demonstrated ability to monitor fetal heart rate and labor progression accurately
- Proficient documentation in electronic medical records with precise charge capture
- Ability to lead rapid-response and code events with clinical leadership
- Experience administering analgesia/anesthesia protocols and maternal sedation as prescribed
- Strong collaboration with obstetric team to develop and adjust birth plans
- Commitment to infection control, safety standards, and regulatory compliance
- Performance-driven mindset with accountability for personal contribution within a team
- Patient and family education on labor expectations, procedures, and postpartum care
- Mentorship and participation in onboarding and professional development of staff
